Terry launched her Direct Marketing career in 1980 as a Sales Coordinator at Donnelley Marketing in Stamford, Connecticut. Having earned a degree in Social Work and practicing in the field for two years, she was swept into the Industry by Donnelley when Carol Wright was a Household word and Database was not. There she coordinated Co-op, Solo and Sampling programs for major package goods and direct response accounts like Colgate Palmolive, Chesebrough-Ponds, McNeil Labs, Grolier Enterprises and Sears.
In 1983, Terry moved on to Walter-Karl, Inc. at the time, one of the industry leaders in the List Brokerage and Management communities. She spend the next 17+ years as a List Broker developing and managing a book of business serving blue chip accounts such as Bloomingdales By Mail, Fingerhut Corp., Disney Catalog, Sportsman's Guide, Catalog Ventures, Inc. Liberty Mutual Insurance, Providian Financial Services and International Master Publishing. These mailers all enjoyed and profited from Terry's unique innovative approach to new customer acquisition. Whether the charge was to launch a new title, identify untapped markets or manipulate core prospecting files for universe expansion, Terry consistently delivered outstanding service along with profitable results. The term "Multi-Channel Marketing" wasn't yet coined, but Terry was ahead of her time, incorporating retail, alternate print media, television & telemarketing channels into mailers acquisition & retention plans.
During this century's first economic downturn, Direct Marketing companies began to downsize, cutting sales & service positions. Terry identified an opportunity to step in, as an outside consultant, to help support marketing services & sales in companies with whom she worked and often competed. Sound Beach Marketing Partners was born, with a view to bridging the competitive gap and delivering sales service to mailers & list owners who drive the List Industry.
In 2004, Sound Beach Marketing expanded to include List Management, Brokerage & database development services directly to companies seeking small, independent respresentation.
